Mini Wood Slice Ornaments

This is a cheap and fun kids activity that combines art and creativity with the outdoors!

I had my Husband chop down a tree “lumberjack-style” with his machete from our backyard…..I know…..it was AWESOME…..and HOT! I used a miter saw to create the wood slices and then drilled small holes to lace the ornaments after painting! Teamwork makes the dream work!

This kids activity is cost effective and keeps your kids involved in the gift-giving spirit of Christmas! I painted the ombre wood slices…..and my kids’ ornaments somehow turned into monochromatic colors, haha…..I love it, though! Pictured below are the materials and equipment you will need to create my Mini Wood Slice Ornaments.

Food Lion Paper Bags, Scrap Towels, Paper Plates and Solo Cups filled half way with water.

To begin, lay scrap towels down to create a protective work surface. Next, lay the tree wood slices on top of the paper grocery bags (Thank you, Food Lion, for providing the bags — we recycle them often; using the bags for activities like this); fill solo cups half way with water; pour preferred paint colors on the paper plates. Paint your ornaments ANYWAY you want (so FUN!) with the paint brushes. Allow the paint to completely dry, then spray Mod Podge to seal.
