LEGO Brick Family Costumes
DIY Halloween costumes for your LEGO-obsessed child(ren)! Recycle those old Wal-Mart and Amazon boxes to create costumes for the whole family!
Kade and Indy are OBSESSED with LEGO! All they ask for, for Christmas and Birthdays, are LEGO sets…..and I am HERE for it! Playing with LEGO allows them to create and learn at the same time…..I even “low-key” love putting all the sets together…..no shame. So, when I asked them what they wanted to be for Halloween…..they of course wanted to be LEGO…..not the LEGO people, but LEGO bricks…..and not just costumes for them, but costumes for myself as well as their Daddy (Sorry, Stephen)! Kade chose blue and Indy chose pink! My LEGO brick is red for N.C. State (my Alma Mater); Go PACK…..Stephen’s LEGO brick is purple for ECU (his Alma Mater); Go PIRATES! Pictured below are the materials you will need to create your LEGO Brick Family Costumes!
Using scissors, cut the back and bottom off each box. Next, adhere the masking tape/duct tape to any edges and closings that need a little extra reinforcement. (I ran out of masking tape…..so, I found some neon pink duct tape from one of Indy’s previous Birthday parties 😂…..it all works the same!) Using a pencil, trace an elongated half circle at the top of the box to create the neck hole; cut out with scissors. Trace an oval on both sides of the box to create the arm holes; cut out with scissors. Carefully adhere tape to the cutout rims of the neck and arm holes (to prevent chafing and irritation from the box).
Space the boxes far apart from each other in your yard, or other work surface, face down; spray paint the inside edges and internal rims of the neck and arm holes.
While the inside is drying, cut the red solo cups; leaving about 3 inches of the bottom. You will need 6 cup bottoms per box.
While your hot glue gun is heating up, take your pencil and mark off 6 dots on the front of each box (2 rows of 3; evenly spaced). Apply hot glue to one rim (cut side) and carefully (but quickly) press down onto one of the markings on the front side of the box; continue with the other 5 cup ends until you have created the LEGO studs. Repeat this process with the other 3 boxes. Apply hot glue around the base of each cup end; on every box, to create a sturdy seal between the cups and boxes.
Space the boxes far apart again in the yard; face up. Put your face mask and gloves on. Spray paint each box and studs with any paint color of your choosing. Allow to dry in the sun for 1 hour. Let’s get SPOOKY!
**Since we are wearing these costumes for Halloween this year, I have yet to get any pictures of us wearing them as a family…..when I do, I will update this post with our family pictures….I wanted to publish this post early so everyone had an opportunity to make one before Halloween.**
